Event Description

Do you LOVE your local park? Do you wish there were more bike trails in your community?

The topic of our June 23rd program will focus on the main topic we heard from Fort Worthians in our Community Vision Survey -- Parks, Trails & Greenspace.

Join us for a focused conversation on the Parks and Trails in Fort Worth! What is coming down the pipeline for our city? What can our citizens do to activate their community parks and green spaces? Find out at this next Urban Design Talk!

Join the conversation around:

  • The history of Fort Worth's planning efforts around Parks, Trails & Greenspace.

  • What Fort Worthians are saying about the public open spaces in our community.

  • The evolution of organizations like Streams & Valleys and plans like the Fort Worth Active Transportation Plan.

  • The focus of the City of Fort Worth's planning efforts around open space - and some of the difficulties around implementing these efforts.

  • The important choices being made between designing open spaces that are beautiful, functional, accessible, and that manage public funding well.

  • Resources and opportunities for planners and community organizers to influence our community's parks trails and greenspace.

  • What makes open space successful - why some spaces are used and others are not.

Join Community Design Fort Worth for the first in a series of Urban Design Talks.

Urban Design Talks with Community Design Fort Worth

We had a great program about Asset-Based Community Development on May 20th! More details about the program can be found below -

Event Details

At this Talk, we will learn about the Asset-Based Community Development and Community Design framework.

In every community there are problems and issues - these tend to be well documented and well defined - high crime, drugs, low graduation rates, poor street conditions - but is that all that defines your community? To get a great snapshot of a community, the practice of asset-based community development encourages focus on what is WORKING in a community. Who are the individuals, associations, and institutions within the community that provide a sense of place? What amenities and resources are offered to the community? Learn more about the importance of Asset Based Community Development at this first Urban Design Talk!

Community Design Fort Worth will also present the findings from Phase 1 of our own Community Needs and Assets map - The Community Vision Survey! What do Fort Worthian's LOVE about their community? What needs to change? How can we apply asset-based community development to Fort Worth's neighborhoods? Join us for a lively discussion on these topics!

The integration of equity, in the process of planning and design, promotes benefits for the residents in underinvested communities by establishing policies and practices to deal with these issues. The difficulties faced by these communities as well as the reasons for these difficulties demand an honest dialog amongst policymakers, designers, planners, scholars, students and members of such communities.

The Open City Symposium at CAPPA aims to bring the issues to the table publicly and seeks optimal measures to achieve equity in the built environment.  The conference will build on previous successes by involving diverse experts and community members and leveraging CAPPA’s expertise in design, planning and policy.
